SLIS 761: Getting to Know Me
My name is Olivia Smith (she/her). I live in St. Matthews, SC. I am the proud mother of a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, and I am a coach and coach's wife. I currently am the girl's cross country coach and assist my husband with our school's track teams. I have been a classroom teacher spanning grade levels 4K to 2nd grade for the past ten years. This past year I have had the opportunity to become the middle and high school librarian at a private school in Orangeburg, SC. I have gained so much hands-on experience within a library this year! This coming school year, I will be back in the classroom as a second-grade teacher. My passion lies in children's literature, and my goal is to become an elementary school librarian. I was a student who "hated" reading because I struggled to read and never found books that made me excited about reading. Even though I know that I will not reach every child who "hates" reading, I hope and pray that as a librarian, I can do my best to instill the passion and love for reading within them. I think my sound would be "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten. I love the chorus and its message to keep fighting and strive for your dreams even if others don't believe in you or are trying to knock you down.
